It is necessary to investigate the battery aging process and deterioration model at the cell level, particularly how battery essential factors affect battery life and other important characteristic metrics like power and energy density. The aging process and deterioration model are also crucial at the battery system level.
In Section 4.2 we provide a tabular review of contributions that account for battery degradation during scheduling and perform a taxonomy of “aging awareness methods”, meaning methods for how to internalize battery degradation into the scheduling method.
In general, the applications of battery management systems span across several industries and technologies, as shown in Fig. 28, with the primary objective of improving battery performance, ensuring safety, and prolonging battery lifespan in different environments . The operational benefits include safety, reliability, and dual-purpose. BMS minimizes the occurrence of a thermal runaway for high-voltage batteries. BMS also identifies the faulty cells connected in series and parallel (dual-purpose). The economic advantages of BMS are extensions of battery lifetime and lowering the cost.
Invasive battery aging detection methods refer to those that require disassembly or intervention of the battery. These methods evaluate the degree of battery aging and performance degradation by analyzing the battery’s internal physical and chemical characteristics.
One way to figure out the battery management system's monitoring parameters like state of charge (SoC), state of health (SoH), remaining useful life (RUL), state of function (SoF), state of performance (SoP), state of energy (SoE), state of safety (SoS), and state of temperature (SoT) as shown in Fig. 11 .
