Solar-cell efficiency is the portion of energy in the form of sunlight that can be converted via photovoltaics into electricity by the solar cell. The efficiency of the solar cells used in a photovoltaic system, in combination with latitude and climate, determines the annual energy output of the system.
In addition to reflecting the performance of the solar cell itself, the efficiency depends on the spectrum and intensity of the incident sunlight and the temperature of the solar cell. Therefore, conditions under which efficiency is measured must be carefully controlled in order to compare the performance of one device to another.
The average energy ratio of 74.6% is close to the median of 76.0%, confirming that the distribution is not dominated by the outliers. It is unrealistic to assume the PV systems will deliver 100% of the model-estimated performance due to the associated maintenance, staff time and attention, and expense required.
This great development in the efficiency is not matched if the cost of the device is considered. The highly efficient PVs (mainly multi-junction solar cells) are prohibitively expensive , . On the other hand, the efficiency of the most dominant technology in the market (i.e. Si) is 25% in the lab and less than 20% commercially.
Above 90% of the current photovoltaic production is based on silicon (Si) solar cells. However, typical commercial solar cells have an average efficiency of around 15%. That is, about one-sixth of the sunlight irradiating the Si solar cells is transformed into electricity.
Photograph of solar PV plant installations The power generated by solar PV cell was monitored for a period of 5 months and the value is 301,361 kWh, with an average power generation per month is 60,272 kWh. Based on the power generated by the solar PV cell, the cost analysis was made.
Solar Performance and Efficiency
The conversion efficiency of a photovoltaic (PV) cell, or solar cell, is the percentage of the solar energy shining on a PV device that is converted into usable electricity. Improving this conversion efficiency is a key goal of research and helps make PV technologies cost-competitive with conventional sources of energy.

Performance ratio is one of main indicators for assessing the efficiency of a solar power system. Azimuth and tilt (elevation) angles are required to optimize overall power production annually. The objective of this research is to examine the problems of the shading effect of photovoltaic (PV) systems.
Performance ratio
Specifically, the performance ratio is the ratio of the actual and theoretically possible energy outputs. It is largely independent of the orientation of a PV plant and the incident solar irradiation on the PV plant. For this reason, the performance ratio can be used to compare PV plants supplying the grid at different locations all over the world.
