This is because of the high efficiency of monocrystalline cells combined with PERC technology. Panels of up to 540 Wp DC power are available from most of the Tier 1 Chinese solar panel manufacturers. Polycrystalline solar panels are typically available in the range from 320 to 370 Wp.
In recent years Chinese manufacturers have come to dominate world output in solar panels and components. The conventional wisdom within the renewable energy sector, until recently, was that China had taken over the market because its companies were more efficient, with better automation and more reliable supply chains.
Solar panels in China are manufactured using Chinese electricity, which is associated with high emissions of CO2, according to Robbie Andrew, a senior researcher at the Center for International Climate Research in Oslo, Norway, who spoke to FOX Business.
China continues its relentless expansion of solar power capacity, now home to the world’s largest solar plant. The 2.2 gigawatt facility spans an area of over 25 square kilometers in the Gobi desert. This $3 billion flagship project demonstrates the epic scale of renewable infrastructure developing worldwide.
The construction comes as China - already a world leader in renewable energy innovation and production - has been ambitiously expanding its solar and wind power projects across the country to achieve clean climate targets over the past years.
This solar project is so far the biggest piece of an ambitious plan by the Chinese government to build 455 gigawatts of renewables across the country’ deserts this decade. The strategy is key to the government’s goal of peaking emissions by 2030.
