In residential photovoltaic energy storage system, the PV power is controlled by power converter and transferred to the battery. The power from solar panels, battery and utility is used in the intelligent manner to provide cost saving . The standalone PV system is used to power AC equipments of a residence.
This paper presents a case study of solar photovoltaic system with utility backup in Nagpur, India. It suggests a cost saving approach by including solar panels, charge controller and auto controller. This additional system of solar panels is connected to the existing system of a battery and inverter.

The long term benefits of such system are high and are monitored with daily energy balance, normalized performance parameters and overall system energy utilization ratio .
