In this paper, both P&O and hill climbing methods are adopted to implement a grid-connected PV system. Their performance is evaluated and compared through theoretical analysis and digital simulation.
When the irradiance is 400 W/m 2, the average output power of the proposed algorithm is 43.38 W, and the average output power of the 1000 W/m 2 irradiance is 111.05 W. Compared to the conventional hill climbing, the proposed algorithm can improve the steady-state tracking accuracy of MPPT from the previous 96.5 to 99.5%.
Maximum energy tracking can be achieved by utilizing dynamic or static method. The tracking of sun movement is the basis for achieving the maximum solar energy in the dynamic method. However, this method may not be useful for energy conversion at small to medium power range due to its high cost and energy consumption.
Therefore, this calls for PV system development through tracking the maximum of the available power under fluctuating climatic conditions , .
