Solar water and wastewater treatment using the technique of concentration of solar energy is a promising technology. The objective of this project is to implement concentrating solar collectors in advanced wastewater treatment of textile effluent, record the changes and optimize the results.
Major challenges in wastewater treatment using solar energy All forms of waste management require high energy which is difficult to obtain during energy crisis worldwide. Abundant solar energy is actively incorporated to treat both solid and liquid wastes.
Recent trends on wastewater treatment using solar energy were reviewed. Solar photocatalysis methods of wastewater treatment was studied and analysed. Advanced oxidation methods using solar energy are found to be effective. Technical limitations and environmental benefits are discussed.
However, recent literature results demonstrate that solar wastewater treatment has the potential to be successfully employed both as a cheaper and more environmentally-friendly alternative to conventional processes, or integrated in existing plants, thereby increasing efficiency and reducing operating costs.
The starting point for the use of solar collectors in wastewater remediation can be traced back to parabolic systems, originally developed for thermal energy applications, and then adapted in 1989 in Albuquerque, NM, USA for water purification.
The solar Energy faces the drawback to treat wastewater only during day time, whereas wastewater treatment plants are underperformed during night. Need for energy storage systems increases the overall cost of the WWT plant.
