To show one example where Capacitor advances the state of the art, we'll review the problem of reordering of input rows. This is one of the less studied problems in research (see this paperfor some background).
BigQuery uses the Capacitor file format for storing data in Colossus, its storage component. This file format takes care of compression, columnar file formats, logical metadata operations, caching, buffering, and general data management to maximize performance and durability.
