Solar control films (the focus of this paper): their purpose is to decrease the solar gains by reducing the solar factor of the glass substrate. These films can be applied on the interior or exterior surface of the glazing.
Solar control films (SCFs) are a passive solution with the potential to increase the performance of new or refurbished glazing they are applied to. This paper presents a comprehensive literature review of the performance of SCFs applied to glazing systems of buildings.
Buildings with a high window-to-wall ratio tend to suffer from excessive solar gains/losses that usually result in high energy demand and discomfort for occupants. Solar control films (SCFs) are a passive solution with the potential to increase the performance of new or refurbished glazing they are applied to.
Typical layers of a solar control film with internal application on the glass surface: 1. scratch resistant coating, 2. and 5. polyester, 3. metal, 4. lamination adhesive, 6. high performance ultraviolet (UV) resin, 7. adhesive, and 8. protective release liner. Based on . 1.
3. Metal: oxide metals are incorporated into the polyester layers of window films and have the purpose of reducing solar heat gains through the glazing. Usually, aluminum is used to reduce solar heat gains and visible transmittance by about 80% and 15–70%, respectively.
Solar energy (G) is assumed to strike perpendicular to the glazing system from outside. A certain percentage of this energy is absorbed by the SSAF and the glass, some is reflected, and the rest is transmitted to the interior (Gt). The temperature of the SSAF increases producing dissipation of heat toward the inside and outside of the room.

"W e don''t want to conquer space at all. We want to expand Earth endlessly. We don''t want other worlds, we want a mirror." These words, uttered by the disillusioned and paranoid Dr Snaut (Yuri Yarvet), paint in one simple stroke the existential horror and frightening truth of Andrei Tarkovsky''s 1972 magnum opus from Solaris.A film set aboard a lonely, half-abandoned …

Interfacial regions play a key role in determining the overall power conversion efficiency of thin film solar cells. However, the nanoscale investigation of thin film interfaces using conventional analytical tools is challenging due to a lack of required sensitivity and spatial resolution. Here, we surmount these obstacles using tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy …
