Although many studies have investigated the energy performance of dedicated outdoor air systems for a certain application, there is a lack of a modeling resource to investigate with how the designs of the system are coordinated with control strategies aiming to improve its energy efficiency.
Two innovative energy-saving designs of a DOAS with dual cooling sources were proposed. The performance of the different DOAS designs in terms of their control performance, cooling load, and energy efficiency was analyzed. Several simulations were performed considering a case study in a hot and humid area in Guangzhou.
One of the design challenges of thermal storage is to develop an accurate cooling load profile of the project. A load profile is an hour-by-hour representation of cooling loads for a 24-hr period over length of summer months. Thermal storage systems provide flexibility for varying strategies as long as the total ton-hours selected are not exceeded.
District Cooling involves the generation of chilled water in a centralized system and the distribution of the chilled water, through a network of piping, to multiple cooling user facilities.
The developed dedicated outdoor air system simulation model can provide an evaluation for further improving the system optimization design, control strategy, and equipment configuration in engineering applications. Energy input to the cooling output ratio factor as a function of the temperature
Cool storage systems are inherently more complicated than non-storage systems and extra time will be required to determine the optimum system for a given application. In conventional air conditioning system design, cooling loads are measured in terms of "Tons of Refrigeration" (or kW’s) required, or more simply "Tons”.
