In Chapter 3, the structures and types of solar cells are summarized, and general aspects of the working principles of solar cells are explained.
The prospects of various solar cell technologies are promising but differ in focus. Silicon-based solar cells continue to evolve, with prospects for improved efficiency and cost reduction through advanced materials and manufacturing techniques.
To understand the operating principles underlying the solar cell, one has to study first the p–n junction diode. Solar cells are made of either homotype p–n junctions, heterotype junctions, or even multi-junction. The homotype is from the same material, whereas the heterotype is from two different materials. The operating principles are the same.
Parameter Extraction The precise modeling of a solar cell model is based on the accuracy of the extracted parameters in that model. It is necessary to identify the model parameters before the use of the selected model to simulate the cell behavior.
