Rooftop photovoltaic solar panels (RPVSPs) have been promoted both locally and globally to address energy demand 1, 2 as RPVSPs material advancements 3 hold the promise of higher efficiency and reduced costs, making them accessible worldwide 4. Here we show that, in Kolkata, city-wide installation of these rooftop photovoltaic solar panels could raise daytime temperatures by up to 1.5 °C and potentially lower nighttime temperatures by up to 0.6 °C.
